The Census Bureau is considering combining race and origin into one question.

Just in case our ethnicity/race/country of origin classifications weren’t complicated enough, the Census Bureau may now rethink how it currently categorizes Latinos.

For now, the Census considers Hispanics or Latinos to be an ethnic group, and not a race — an attempt to take into consideration the complexity of white, black, and mestizo descendants from Latin America.
